Instructor Biography
Jyl Blauvelt Clark

Jyl began rug hooking at the age of eight.  Her mother Joan Blauvelt who was a founding member of ATHA taught her how to hook.  Her mother attended camp at Cedar Lakes in the early 70's.  Jyl's history with rug hooking in Southern Indiana began in 1987 when she began teaching some classes at the Dee's crafts.  That spread to classes at the Carnegie Center in New Albany, IN and in her home.  She completed  McGown certification in 2004.  In 2003, she partnered with Mary Silva to open Cat House Rugs and they founded the ATHA group Buffalo Trace Rug Hookers which is very active today with 50+ members.  Jyl has been teaching since.  Some of the teachers she has studied with include Arlene Bechtold, Sybil Osicka, Nancy Blood, and Michelle Micarrelli.  Her specialties include hooked plaid, shaded sculpting, fine shading, and what she calls tweener hooking which is in between fine shading and a more contemporary style. She loves working with wide cut as well and has instructed in wide cut for years.  Her passion is fiber dyeing.
