This retreat is open to the public.
"Featherweight" is a sewing machine collage pattern by Laura Heine and features a full sized pattern. The Featherweight is a classic in the sewing machine world and they are still around today. This is a featherweight you will never have to oil, and will love just the same. The finish wall hanging is approximately 26" x 32"
Our instructor for the weekend is Carol Kapsalis. She will walk us through the pattern with step by step instructions on how to construct this painterly collage.

Supply List
Sewing machine with 1/4" piecing foot, 70 microtex sharp needles
Fabric requirement:
5-6 black fat quarters
1/2 yards of plane black or black grunge or both. Scraps of silver or gray
Fat quarters of sewing motif fabrics. At least 10
Fat quarters with flowers
- Kaffe fabrics with all sizes of flowers
- Fabrics with flowers and vines
- Fat quarters with words or writing
- Fabrics with unusual motifs
(Flowers and objects will be cut out of above fabrics with some of the sewing motif fabrics)
- 1 yard of fabric - Backing and Binding
Other Supplies:
- Steam-a-Seam II (not steam a seam Lite)
- 1 yard of Pattern Ease
- Highly Recommended:
Karen Buckley small scissors or Kai small scissors that have a
serrated edge. These are to cut around very small items.
- Paper Cutting Scissors
- Sewing Scissors
- Thread
- Other basic sewing notions - pins, seam ripper, etc.
At the class, Carol will have Karen Buckley small scissors and Kai small scissors available for sale at discounted prices.

Carol Kapsalis
I am Carol Kapsalis. I own a day retreat center in Louisville, Kentucky called Seams Like Home where groups come together to sew and take classes. I attended a Laura Heine workshop in June of 2018 where I learned many techniques for collage quilts. I have taught Laura Heine classes at Quilters Square in Lexington and at Seams Like Home in Louisville.
